Contact With Horses LLC was founded by Calyn Acebes MA, LMHC in 2009. Calyn earned a BS in Applied Psychology from Ithaca College and a MA in counseling from Naropa University. She completed her certification in Gestalt Therapy through the Gestalt Institute of the Rockies. In 2006 Calyn received a certification in Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy through EAGALA (equine-assisted growth and learning association). For four years, Calyn was the program director and clinical supervisor for Medicine Horse Program, a non-profit organization located in Boulder, Colorado. She helped facilitate student trainings at the Gestalt Equine Institute of the Rockies and consulted for individual therapists building their own equine therapy practices. For three years Calyn worked as an in home family therapist for a community mental health agency in Rhode Island. She specializes in grief, trauma, and attachment. She has led groups for women in transition, adolescents with anxiety and depression, war veterans, and children who have lost loved ones. She has worked with clients locally and from out of state.
Calyn grew up on a farm, and found that being in daily contact with animals brought her immense joy, compassion, confidence, and awareness. Her extensive twenty-eight-years of experience with horses, and over ten years of providing counseling, creates a safe therapeutic environment to learn and grow.
